Reset HP Lefthand P4300

We've got two old HP Lefthand P4300 SAN, which we would like to use for training perposes. Because we don't know the passwords anymore, we would like to reset the setup using the HP P4000 Storage System Quick Restore.iso

I've downloaded the version 10.5 11.5 and 12.6

When using versions 11.5 and 12.6 the following error will be displayed after inserting the USB with the valid license key:

umount: /mnt/cdrom: not mounted
eject: tried to use '/mnt/cdrom' as device name but it is no block device
eject: unable to find or open device for: 'cdrom'
Auto Imaging done

When using version 10.5 the following erro will be displayed after inserting the USB with the valid license key:

VIRTUAL=24
This is not a virtual platform
hwid = 24
DEBUG: Invalid hardware unit - unit type number is [24]
Failed to find new OS partition, cannot create blatz file
Auto Imaging Done

In both cases the passwords aren't reset after a reboot.

Can somebody point me into the right direction, I'm lost.

Re: Reset HP Lefthand P4300

Hi JY,

I've copied the ISO to a USB drive with Rufus. I believe it automatically selects FAT32. It was a 4GB USB.

But I've also burned the ISO to a DVD and booted from that. Same result.

Obtaining a license key

You must obtain a license key for the storage system before you begin the SAN/iQ software imaging

process. First obtain the MAC address of the storage system, and then request the license key using

the MAC address. The license key is used during the imaging process.

Obtaining the MAC address

Complete the following steps:

1. Log into iLO for the storage system.

2. Navigate to the System Information тЖТNIC tab to obtain the eth0/Port 1 MAC address.

3. Copy the MAC address for future use.

Requesting the license key

The easiest way to enter the license key into the storage system is by using a USB flash drive. You can

also enter in the license key if you do not have a USB flash drive.

1. Go to the HP Software Licensing portal at https://webware.hp.com and click Manage licenses.

2. Follow the steps to reprint the original license key.

3. Prepare the key for use in the system recovery process. Name the file as follows, with no file

extension:

featurekey_<MAC address with no colons>

For example:

featurekey_0030482A189B

4. Save this file to the USB flash drive.

5. If you have more than one storage system to image, obtain the MAC address and request the

license key for each storage system.

Re: Reset HP Lefthand P4300

I am experiencing the same problem on a P4500 G2 after the key has been accepted (either by USB or by typing). I suspect the problem is that I am not only re-imaging, but I'm using a more recent software version (12.5 on machine, 12.6 on disk). So I'll try to track down an earlier version of the Quick Restore DVD.

Found a Valid License Key on USB device

Re: Reset HP Lefthand P4300

In my instance, at least, the problem was resolved by using the 12.5 Quick Restore DVD. Most likely this was because the systems were at 12.5.

Re: Reset HP Lefthand P4300

@Gert1982 - did you ever fix this as I'm having the same issue.

I've only got the 12.6 DVD here at the moment and no way of burning other versions until I get home, so I'll create 12.5, 10.x and 11.x as I'm not sure what versions were installed, and see what happens.

If you have fixed it in the meantime however, I'm interested in finding out how.

Thanks!

Re: Reset HP Lefthand P4300

P4500 g2 can run Lefthand Os 12.5, no further upgrade to 12.6 possible.

P4500 g1 only till Lefthand Os 9.5

Re: Reset HP Lefthand P4300

If you've got a G1 you can not go higher than Lefthand 9.5, named SAN/IQ 9.5

That was my fix.
