p4000 Node Raid Recommendation

Whats the recommended RAID level for 2 nodes in a cluster that serve SQL and VM's. Raid 5 or 10.

Re: p4000 Node Raid Recommendation

You need at least 3 nodes to do NR5.

Even with 3 nodes, you'll get better write performance with NR10 than with NR5.

NR5 is usually recommended for long term archival purposes.

Re: p4000 Node Raid Recommendation

there are two raid levels to deal with. Hardware and network. In general, HP uses Hardware raid5 and network raid 10. HP is clear that network raid 5 is ONLY for archive data stores. As for hardware raid levels, it depends on your IO/Storage requirements and so its hard to say with the information you gave, but generally raid5 is OK. I have most of my VSAs at hardware raid5 because raid10 on top of raid10 is just sooo wasteful and I get the performance i need from raid5.
