Deploy Aruba 2530-8G-PoE+ with a configuration file using reusable variables

Hi,

I'm trying to create a very basic config-file with reusable variables for a fast and basic deployment. The problem might be easily solved but I havn't had the time to delve too deep into everything. The specific variable we have a problem setting is for the IP address. The content in the configuration file is as follows.

hostname "${Hostname}"

max-vlans 512

ip default-gateway 10.xxx.xxx.1

snmp-server community "strong" unrestricted

snmp-server community "light"

snmp-server host 10.100.1.59 community "strong"

snmp-server contact "${Contact}" location "${Location}"

vlan 1

name "DEFAULT_VLAN"

no untagged 1-8

untagged 9-10

no ip address

exit

vlan 999

name "Management"

tagged 9-10

ip address ${IP address} 255.255.255.0

exit

management-vlan 999

spanning-tree

spanning-tree force-version rstp-operation

no tftp server

no dhcp config-file-update

password manager

password operator

I know that the config is very basic but I'm probably missing something.

Also, is there any way to perhaps use our DHCP-server to deploy a certain config-file to the switch via the option Bootfile Name?

Thanks in advance

Strangely enough changing the DEFAULT_VLAN as untagged on each port didn't work. But adding a third vlan and changing all ports to that specific vlan as untagged made the config-file work.

In other words, we've solved the problem.

Hello,

Picking up on your request for DHCP driven auto-deployment -

Have you seen the auto-deployment video on youtube? It's a few years old but you should be able to still follow the methodology.

In fact I've just found an updated version of the same sort of process on this video on v7.2 of IMC.

Chris Young is a legend.

Some more reading on ZTP on IMC from Joe Neville's blog here

A 2530 should DHCP for an address, you can point option 66 for tftp server and the startup filename.

You can build it up based upon the switch MAC address. Zero touch provisioning - whoop whoop!

You should only need to set it up once and then subsequent switches will almost be clones. :-)

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks

Ian
