Real-time location doesn't work with IP query

Hi all,

i've a problem in IMC 7.0 (windows).

When i try to locate a device with his IP address through the "Real-time location", this feature doesn't work.

It works when i use the mac address to find the device but not with the IP.

Does anyone has an idea about this problem ?

Thx

Re: Real-time location doesn't work with IP query

Is IMC managing the default GW for that client? If yes, what sort of device is it?

IMC needs to be able to get the IP/MAC mapping from somewhere, and it would normally do this from the default GW, by polling its ARP cache. This is obviously not a fool-proof method. It might be that IMC can get the MAC from the CAM table of the switch the device is attached to, but doesn't have an IP->MAC mapping from any other device.

Hi Lindsay,

thank you for your reply.

Actually, the gateway of the devices isn't managed by the IMC. I will try to manage it and retry the locator.
