Hi there,
I am having an issue regarding rebooting a switch in a stack. It is just a 2 switch stack and I am testing the IRF and member master etc. When I try to reboot slot 1 (Master) I get an error "the specified file does not exist". Can anyone give a litle guidance on this?
I done a dir and all looks good;

SolutionThis is the reason of the issue:
Software images on slot 1:
...
Main startup software images:
usba0:/5945-cmw710-boot-r6555p02.bin
usba0:/5945-cmw710-system-r6555p02.bin
...
Main s/w image pointer of slot 1 is set to the USB file system that is unavailable right now. In order to fix the issue, run following command:
boot-loader file boot slot1#flash:/5945-cmw710-boot-r6555p01.bin system slot1#flash:/5945-cmw710-system-r6555p01.bin slot 1 main
Hope this helps!

Re: Rebooting switch in stack
By the way, just a question, did you try to upgrade from 6555P01 to 6555P02 before the issue happened? Now your IRF stack is running on 6555P01, but at the same time I see that on the flash of the second slot you have files 5945-cmw710-boot-r6555p02.bin and 5945-cmw710-system-r6555p02.bin
If you want to perform an upgrade, then after fixing the boot pointer by the command from my previous message, run the following:
1. Copy both boot and system images from slot2 to slot1:
copy slot2#flash:/5945-cmw710-boot-r6555p02.bin slot1#flash:/
copy slot2#flash:/5945-cmw710-system-r6555p02.bin slot1#flash:/
2. Upgrade and reboot:
save safely force
boot-loader file boot slot1#flash:/5945-cmw710-boot-r6555p02.bin system slot1#flash:/5945-cmw710-system-r6555p02bin slot 1 main
boot-loader file boot slot2#flash:/5945-cmw710-boot-r6555p02bin system slot2#flash:/5945-cmw710-system-r6555p02.bin slot 2 main
reboot
I hope this time the upgrade will work properly

Re: Rebooting switch in stack
Great news! I am glad my advice was useful.
Yes, you can fix other switches in the same manner. I guess files on USB were referenced by somebody using "boot-loader flash ..." command, like an attempt to upgrade, but it's not correct procedure. Files from USB should be copied to the flash and then "boot-loader file" should be used to point the boot loader to these local files.
BTW, if next time you use .IPE file for the upgrade it will be easier - just copy it to slot1#flash or slot2#flash and use one simple command: "boot-loader file <ipe-filename> all main". This command will extract boot.bin and system.bin on ALL flash filesystems (all slots) and will set proper boot pointer on all switches. After that it will even ask you if you want to delete the .IPE file as it's not needed after the installation. But I would avoid running the installation of IPE from the USB directly, seems like that was the case and it is not correct procedure. First copy the IPE file from USB and just then start the upgrade using the newly copied file on flash.
Hopefully it will help you to avoid such problems during future upgrades!

Re: Rebooting switch in stack
Hi Ivan,
Having issues upgrading now??
I completed;
- Copy both boot and system images from slot2 to slot1:
copy slot2#flash:/5945-cmw710-boot-r6555p02.bin slot1#flash:/
copy slot2#flash:/5945-cmw710-system-r6555p02.bin slot1#flash:/
Then saved etc
Then tried below and issue;
boot-loader file boot slot1#flash:/5945-cmw710-boot-r6555p02.bin system slot1#flash:/5945-cmw710-system-r6555p02bin slot 1 main
See below
