Business Phone Error Message 0xFFFF
2 different phone lines we have in our office quit working but I think it's the line or configuration of the line because when I set up a phone from somewhere else that does work, it no longer works there. If I take one of the phones from the room that isn't working and move it into another one, it works just fine. When I log onto our 3Com site to look at the telephone configuration, these two phones no longer have an extension, just asterics and has the error 0xFFFF. We have to get these two lines working, they are our conference rooms. Oh, and if you have advice on it, please pretend like you're writing a book for dummies with simple instructions because I have no experience in this field.
Thanks!

Re: Business Phone Error Message 0xFFFF
The user and the Mac address got seperated . Shut off all Auto Discovery for one thing in system settings .
If there are stars next to the Mac address but not ext number :
1. Id the mac address by turning the tel over and writing the macc address down
2. find out what ext belongs on that ext .
3. In the NBX go into users and select that particular extension
4. On the left ( in 6.0 is a circle . Find the mac address and click on the circle next to the mac address of the tel .
5. Apply this on the bottom of the page
6. cancel on the bottom of the page
7. repeat this step for any other tel with stars next to the mac address .
Repeat these steps for any tel that has stars next to it .
Sounds like the system was rebooted with auto discovery on it and the extensions booted up , could not find the user associated with that mac ,. and did not associate the user . we see thsi more in older software like R5.0.31 and prior . 6.0 and 6.5 does not show this issue as much .
simple fix .

Re: Business Phone Error Message 0xFFFF
The stars are next to the ext. number though, not next to the mac address. The mac address is still appearing under the telephone configurations. Does that make a difference for these steps?

Re: Business Phone Error Message 0xFFFF
next to the mac address under telephones , if there is no extension nu ber and stars then follow the procedure above . If on the user , you se a stasr , then it means the default name on the user is " new user " and never changed or modified .
