Operations Connector SDK 2.0 – adding 3rd party systems into your OpsBridge just got a lot easier

HPE Operations Connector (previously called BSM Connector or BSMC) is a component of Operations Manager i (OMi) that enables you to integrate data from third-party systems in OMi, OMi’s Business Value Dashboard, Operations Bridge Reporter and Operations Analytics. You can integrate events, metrics, topology and generic data.

HPE and HPE partners have already used Operations Connector as a base to build many integrations for third party systems, like Microsoft SCOM, Zenoss, Oracle Enterprise Manager etc. See the list of available connectors on HPE Live Network.

Many HPE partners have also used the BSM Connector Integrations Development Kit (IDK) 1.0 , which enabled users to more easily build an integration..

Now the Operations Connector SDK 2.0 builds on the success of the original development kit, speeding up the development of integrations even more. When used in the new Sandbox Mode, it can also be used to test and troubleshoot an existing integration.

The SDK consists of the following parts:

  • An elaborate SDK documentation makes it a breeze to familiarize yourself with important concepts and get started with the SDK. Animations show how to use the SDK sandbox mode, overview pages explain important concepts, and detailed explanations of all code examples are provided.

  • A REST-API and corresponding out-of-the-box integration policies to receive data create a consistent interface for all data channels, getting your integration up and running as smoothly as possible. Additionally, example code shows how to submit data to this API. Examples are available in the following programming languages: Python, Java, JavaScript, Go, cURL
  • The java skeleton project can be used as a starting point for building your own Java-based data integrations. It serves as a template for writing integration collector processes, and can be quickly and easily filled out and customized based on your own environment and desired integration
  • A complete DataDog integration example gives you a model to follow when creating a new integration! Datadog is a SaaS-based monitoring and analytics platform for IT infrastructure, operations, and development teams. It brings together data from servers, databases, applications, tools, and services to present a unified view of the applications that run at scale in the cloud. The SDK documentation walks you through creating an Operations Connector for Datadog using the code skeletons provided by the Operations Connector SDK.
The complete source code and the final Operations Connector for Datadog content pack are included as well.
  • Sandbox Mode intercepts and previews incoming data, which is very useful during the development of a new integration, as it allows you to target and fix problems before connecting the integration to a running OMi system.

Here a few screenshots of the preview that the sandbox mode provides:
