Storage Resource Management (SRM) has become increasingly complicated over the past few years. Explosion in the amount of data is just one of the reasons that SRM has become such a headache for IT. A lack of visibility, decentralized management and an inability to accurately predict forecast requirements are key concerns when it comes to SRM.

The marketplace for SRM solutions only adds to the congestion for IT providers. They already face time consuming and complex multi-vendor solutions, proprietary point products, complications from cloud and pressure to optimize investments.

Luckily a solution to these problems has just arrived: HP Storage Essentials, version 9.6. HP Storage Essentials (SE) gives you the ability to manage a global, multi-vendor enterprise storage infrastructure from the convenience of your browser.  It empowers you with a dashboard where you can control all of your storage assets including capacity, location, utilization and incidents.

Improving on the SRM experience

Storage Essentials allows you to trend historical growth patterns as well as forecast thresholds to ensure investments are in sync with assets utilization. This allows for complete investment protection and fiscal awareness. With consolidated global reporting and unlimited report customization, sharing management reports across geographies is as easy as the click of a mouse.

HPSE provides the broadest support available for the EMC line of storage arrays, more than any SRM tool on the market.  In our new v9.6 release, existing support for EMC CLARiiON has been enhanced, and NEW for this release is support for EMC VNX Block discovery—including Thin Pools.

Interoperability enhancements continue with the existing integrations for:

  • HP Operations Orchestration for automation of repetitive tasks and workflow creation
  • HP Operations Manager for complete incident, alert and problem management
  • HP uCMDB for understanding the context of managing CIs, modeling and change management

Integration into HP ITPS Executive Scorecard is new with this release as well. With this new integration, HP Storage Essentials is able to share key performance indicators for storage utilization, path compliance and critical storage events. This ability further increases the value of performance management and investment criteria.

In this new SE v9.6 release, several enhancement capabilities were made to our 3PAR/StoreServe offerings with deeper performance metrics, new performance policies, 30+ new reports and increased awareness of incidents and alerting.  Further development also increased the agentless performance capabilities, new path calculation improvements and new support for IPv6 and Oracle v11.2.0.3.

HP is committed to bringing the most comprehensive SRM tool to the market.  With HP Storage Essentials Enterprise Edition v9.6, optimization of SRM capabilities is our top priority.
