Don’t you love great book recommendations from great people? Well, that’s what you get in this blog post. In a recent segment of Discover Performance Weekly, host Paul Muller, VP of Strategic Marketing, HP Software prompted the expert panelists, Chris Dancy “the most connected human on earth” and Roy Ritthaler VP Marketing of IT Operations at HP Software, for their “tip of the week” for a great read. The conversation left the audience with three great industry reads. Each are well-regarded and celebrated with outstanding reviews. And contrary to typical business recommendations, one book is a suspense-packed fiction novel!

If you missed this brief industry discussion, you can see is here, Connected Intelligence: Why disconnected data is dead or read a summary of the event highlights here.

So here are your top 3 must-reads – Enjoy!

The Phoenix Project
by Gene Kim, Kevin Behr, George Spafford -
recommended by Roy Ritthaler (@roy_ritthaler), VP Marketing of IT Operations at HP Software

In a fast-paced and entertaining style, three luminaries of the DevOps movement deliver a story that anyone who works in IT will recognize. Readers will not only learn how to improve their own IT organizations, they'll never view IT the same way again. Roy Ritthaler says it “does a great job of describing how Operations IT can transform itself and become a partner with the business and bound into the business. It’s a great read.”

The Circle
by Dave Eggers
– recommended by Chris Dancy (@ServiceSphere), known as the “Most Connected Human on Earth”

This thought-provoking fiction novel focuses on young college graduate in the future, Mae Holland. She can’t believe her great fortune to land her first job in the Silicon Valley with the most powerful Internet company in the world. What begins as the captivating story of one woman’s ambition and idealism soon becomes a heart-racing novel of suspense, raising questions about memory, history, privacy, democracy, and the limits of human knowledge.

by David J Anderson
– recommended by Paul Muller, VP of Strategic Marketing, HP Software

In today’s world of operations it’s not about managing flow charts it’s about managing flow of work. A few critics say, “This book opens up a new way on looking into the process value stream flow. By following the 5 steps, an organizational wide self-organized and ongoing improvement culture can be achieved.” “For an IT-manager, this is a must read.”

Again, if you missed this recent thought-leadership discussion tune now to: Connected Intelligence: Why disconnected data is dead. You will explore the most current trends in IT today and the most forward-thinking indications of how IT will morph by 2020, and beyond.   You can also follow the expert panel directly on Twitter: Chris Dancy (@ServiceSphere), Ritthaler (@roy_ritthaler), and Paul Muller (@xthestreams)

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll definitely check these out.  As an aside I highly recommend a Kindle for anyone that likes to read.  It has completely changed my reading habits.  Seriously, it’s even easier than using a physical book, I’ve found that I have about doubled the amount I read since I bought one.
