Best way to make an Ignite recovery image of the Ignite server?

I was thinking 'make_tape_recovery' but then on reading the manual, it recommends using the Ignite GUI.

If I use the Ignite GUI, I assume I will need to add the Ignite server as an Ignite client.

When I run 'Create Tape Recovery Archive' won't the innards of Ignite be being updated while the Ignite image is being made? And if so, doesn't that mean a subsequent restore of the Ignite server from tape will be of a state where the Ignite image creation has started, but not finished?

Or am I worrying about nothing?

Many thanks.,

Gary

I would not try to backup the ignite server to itself - how to restore then?

You can either do a network recovery to another server or backup to tape, exclude the archives.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Hi Torsten. Thanks for your reply.

I was thinking to do a make_tape_recovery of the entire (Ignite Server) system.

When you say 'backup to tape' is that what you mean?

Why do you say exclude the archives? There should be enough room on the tape for the archices as well.

Many thanks,

Gary

Re: Best way to make an Ignite recovery image of the Ignite server?

Just trying to go through creating a recovery tape of the Ignite server on the Ignite server.

It's asking for the 'Number of previous log and data files to save'. Is this relevant when using tape?

Thanks,

Gary

I would just run the make_tape_recovery command manually (or via cron).  I wouldn't worry about using the Ignite GUI for anything.  VERY rarely do I use the Ignite GUI.  The make_tape_recovery and make_net_recovery commands are much easier to user.
