BootOnSAN with rpXXXX
Does anybody have a walkthrough for BootingOnSAN with an rpXXXX ?
Operation : Migrating an rpXXXX from a disk array to another.
LUN will be replicated thru hardware replication solution.
Can you help me to plan the operation?
What are the clues/tips/important steps to take into consideration?
I guess we'll have a mess in hardware path or something ...
Thanks

Re: BootOnSAN with rpXXXX
This information is not very helpful.
Based on this - locate the "new" hardware path and boot the system from. If needed, adjust the LVM configuration.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: BootOnSAN with rpXXXX
Walkthrough #1. Very bad idea. If you san goes down so goes your system and any chance of diagnosing the problem.
rpxxxx systems have a boot interrupt at console. Use the sea command to find a bootable device if you must try this plan.

Re: BootOnSAN with rpXXXX
Regarding the boot path:
Try to calculate it (I'm sure you know how to) or insert an installation CD and boot from this (of course do not install from it ;-))
The servers firmware will not show results from the search command while searching on SAN (it's not clever enough), but the install kernel will.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: BootOnSAN with rpXXXX
Serveur is already booting on an ESS ... and it has to migrate on DS8k
I didn't install it and i'm not familiar with booting-from-san on those server.
What else can you tell me?

Re: BootOnSAN with rpXXXX
Find out the boot path as adviced.
Stop the boot process, boot from that path (LVM maintenance mode). Adjust the hw path settings while doing a vgexport/vgimport of vg00.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.
