Build network recovery image from tape
Hi Experts,
I have successfully taken ignite backup of one server using make_tape_recovery command. Now I have configured an Ignite server and a SAN filesystem for backups through ignite tool. I am able to do network images using ignite tool.
My question is is there any way I can restore the tape image to my Ignite SAN filesystem for network recovery.
I am not sure that the follwoing command will work.
dd if=/dev/rmt/0mn of=/data/ignite_images/clientname
Please help
Thanks

Re: Build network recovery image from tape
You want to take your tape image and copy it to your SAN and enable cloning that image via network recovery.
This is possible to do; however, Ignite-UX does not give you a command or a process to do this. You are on your own, unless you have HP support and/or some consulting funds.
If you really want to do this on your own, just "dd" will not do it. You have to know how the tape image is formatted. You can read more about that here:
1) PA RISC tape: http://docs.hp.com/en/5992-6584/ch14s02.html
2) Itanium tape: http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5992-5274/5992-5274.pdf
Easier ways to get there:
1) Install the tape on a target machine. Take a network recovery image of that machine. Clone from there.
2) Forget the tape, start with new network image. Clone from there.
3) Clone directly from tape. Change parameters in the Ignite menus manually each time (slow and awkward).

Re: Build network recovery image from tape
Shalom,
You build network images with make_net_recovery.
I do not believe your command will work, even if it does I'm not sure if it will be of any value.
The right tool for the right job.
