Can I run an Ignite Server on a VM?

Does HP Support running an HP Ignite server off of an HP VM running HP-UX 11.31?

Thanks

Re: Can I run an Ignite Server on a VM?

First, I don't know the official answer.

You can do it, but I would not suggest it. In the first manuals of IVM was a remark that it should not be used for heavy IO application like Ignite, this has changed with the AVIO drivers but I would still go with a physical system.

As always it depends .... how many clients do you plan to run against that server?

I am looking at managing about 20 clients from that server. I would much rather use a physical box, but that is not an option at this point in time.

Found it ...

Typical software you can run on a guest includes the following:
• HP-UX 11i V2 or V3 Virtual Server Operating Environment (VSE-OE)
• Software installation tools (Ignite-UX and Software Distributor-UX)
• System performance monitoring tools (GlancePlus, Measureware, OpenView Operations
Agent)

And 20 client should not put so much pressure on the system, last point - if you have no choice - try it ;-)

As long as you keep the depots (the "file server storage" part of IUX) on a "real" machine, I do not see any problems with a guest running IUX.
