Hi,

Yes you can, you can take make_net_recovery from one server and restore into another server at another network but restore into a intractive mode.

Yes you can but most probably bootp protocol, being UDP based, will not be allowed to traverse between networks, so you will end up needing a ignite boot helper system.

Look at this link for setting up a boot helper

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/5992-5309/ch05s04.html#Ignite_boot_helper

and also refer to ignite cookbook on hp's website

http://docs.hp.com/en/5992-5309/index.html

Hope this helps

Re: Can I use ignite with a client, in a diferent network?

Hi,

Thanks for your replies.

The thing is, if I'm not able to boot from ignite server in remote system, (a system that is in the different subnet), then, the only way to recover an old image, (that is stored in the ignite server), is to make it via make_tape_recovery or by changing temporaly the IP address, right?!?

Re: Can I use ignite with a client, in a diferent network?

Changing the ip address alone will not work as your subnet is configured for different set of ip addresses.

Unless you are willing to setup a different hpux server in this subnet as a boot helper, your only other option is to have the network guys to provision the port your lan0 is connected to, temporarily, to the subnet where your ignite server is located. Once you finish your ignite process, they can provision it back to the regularly designated subnet.

Re: Can I use ignite with a client, in a diferent network?

There are easy ways to boot a client across subnets, especially if the client is Itanium. Most Itanium servers have the EFI commands 'dbprofile' and 'lanboot' that do this easily.

Cloning a system via make_net_recovery:
- interactive via Ignite user panels
- hard coded via recovery config file edits

Re: Can I use ignite with a client, in a diferent network?

You have not problem with BACKUP but with the RESTORE.

On previous realises it was not possible
to boot from different subnet, because Ignite was used MAC-address based boot
from core lans.
Now it is possible using new feature "dtprofile" on v.2. You have to
use last firmware on the mashine.

Check "man dtprofile" and do it.

Hi,

If you are not able to access Ignite server then you need to use make_tepe_recovery and through local tape drive. You can select intractive mode from there you can chaing the ipaddress of your new server.
