Changes in C version of Ignite-UX

The next release of Ignite, version C.6, will contain some major
changes.
- the file layout on the Ignite-UX server.
- PA network boot clients will see some changes to the behavior
of the secondary loader, hpux.
- All install clients will see a change in the configurations
offered from /var/opt/ignite/INDEX.
- And support for B.10.20 has been removed.
The file layout changes:

o OS specific INSTCMDS[IA], and RECCMDS[IA] will be delivered in the
same location as SYSCMDS[IA] for the same OS.

B.11.23 for example (B.11.11 is similar):

/opt/ignite/data/Rel_B.11.23/
INSTCMDS <-- new location
INSTCMDSIA <-- new location
RECCMDS <-- new location
RECCMDSIA <-- new location
SYSCMDS
SYSCMDSIA
config
hw_patches_cfg

o OS specific Ignite-UX kernels in release-specific directories in /opt/ignite/boot.

B.11.23 for example (B.11.11 is similar):

/opt/ignite/boot/Rel_B.11.23/ <<---- new directory
IINSTALL
IINSTALLFS
WINSTALL
WINSTALLFS

The PA secondary loader change.

In order to support the installation of B.11.23 on PA clients it was necessary to provide both a B.11.11 set of Ignite-UX kernels, and a B.11.23 set. If the target client OS is B.11.00 or B.11.11 then the Ignite-UX kernel needs to be B.11.11 based, and if the target client OS is B.11.22 (IPF only) or B.11.23 (PA and IPF), the Ignite-UX kernel needs to be B.11.23 based. So for systems that support running either
B.11.11 or B.11.23 there needs to be a mechanism for selecting the correct kernel to boot. The secondary loader has been enhanced to provide a menu to select the kernel to boot for PA systems. The loader for IPF systems has not changed with regard to kernel selection.

The changes to configurations offered from /var/opt/ignite/INDEX:

The configurations presented in the client UI will be filtered with regard to the OS version of the Ignite-UX kernel that was booted. For example, if the B.11.23 kernel is booted then no B.11.00 or B.11.11 configuration choices from /var/opt/ignite/INDEX will be presented.

B.10.20 status:
There are no B.10.20 bundles or filesets delivered with the C.6 version of Ignite-UX. Version B.5.4 of Ignite-UX is the last version to support B.10.20 installation or recovery.

When this version is released complete details of the changes will in the release notes and on

What about make_tape_recovery support for VPARS?

There aren't any Vpars specific changes in this release.

Any future plans? We've grown to rely on Ignite but it just doesn't work very well in the VPAR world.

No specific plans, but this is good feedback to guide our development plans.

Re: Changes in C version of Ignite-UX

Thanks for your response, Michael. I'm really curious what HP's suggestion is for disaster recovery when running VPARs. If we can't use make_tape_recovery, how are we supposed to get things up and running at a DR site?

Re: Changes in C version of Ignite-UX

I have a question regarding the filtering. How do i install 11.23 on a server that is running 11.11? Ignite refuses to show me ALL versions. How do I turn this "feature" off?
