Copying multiple OS DVDs into ignitable depot?

Hey;

All this time playing with ignite and this is the first time I've had to consider doing this.

I've got my first blade coming in and want to ignite it using the original set of DVDs instead of using the golden image from rx4640. That being said, I don't want to hang around in the datacenter flipping through three dvds.

Can I simply copy all three dvds into one depot on my ignite server?

Assuming I can, are the next steps make_config and manage_index?

Thanks for any hints/tips/suggestions.

Have you looked at chapter 11.2.1 from here

Use the DVDs as the source depots.

Re: Copying multiple OS DVDs into ignitable depot?

Hey;

Thanks for the reply. If I use the DVDs, either in the blade or in the ignite server, I'm still stuck swapping DVDs. That's the part I'd like to avoid. I'd rather kick off the ignite, configure, hit go, then go to bed and have it done in the morning when I get up again...

Re: Copying multiple OS DVDs into ignitable depot?

Shalom Doug,

I regularly swcopy OS DVD sets into a single Ignite archive in order to do cold installations.

It is reasonable, not because you hate DVD swapping, but because the media can get damaged doing that.

Ever to an install and have it fail due to a scratched disk 3?

All you need to do is swcopy each DVD into the same target archive.

swcopy -i -s
Choose a target where there is space, use the menus to do the copy.

Re: Copying multiple OS DVDs into ignitable depot?

What i was suggesting and what the chapter eluded to was building a depot using the DVDs which then could be used as source for all ignite installs.

in other words, what SEP said. ;)

Re: Copying multiple OS DVDs into ignitable depot?

Hey;

Good deal; so swcopy works. Was suspecting it would but it's good to have verification.

After I have my new depot, do I then have to run the make_configs/manage_index? I'm assuming there's no ignite magic that'll automatically pick that up, right?

Thanks again for the replies.

Re: Copying multiple OS DVDs into ignitable depot?

Shalom again Doug,

Answer to your last question:

Probably not.

cd
swreg -l depot

Now its visible.

Your Ignite server has nbp.efi which lets you boot systems and do OS installs or Ignite clones.

You may want to do the manage_index work if you are creating golden images, but that is not what you are doing here.

Re: Copying multiple OS DVDs into ignitable depot?

Just run ignite on server, select the option "copy DVD" (can't remember the exact name, but you'll find it) and copy the DVDs.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
