Enhancements to Ignite required

We discovered (with HP Support) that when doing a ignite to dissimilar hardware and having HBA cables plugged into the HBAs, the ignite process gets stuck forever. It appears that if you have attached external disks (any like EMC, shark etc.) then it will automatically scan those. So some recommendations would be:

- Have option to specify only local disk or
external (if you need to boot of a storage
array)
- More verbose errors on the screen telling
what is happening

"Edited to comply with ITRC GuideLines"

The above problem cause a several hour delay into a migration.

Anyone else ran into this before?

Even the latest ignite exhibits this issue.

Re: Enhancements to Ignite required

Yes I have.

Solutions:

1) Latest Ignite version.
2) Unplug fiber cards until after kernel load
3) Use Golden images for dissimilar hardware its designed to handle some level of hardware difference.

I don't work for HP, so I can't look at your case. More details would be helpful.

Re: Enhancements to Ignite required

We got no delays but found that if You're restoring a previously mirrored vg00 to a single disk, it will auto-select the first external disk as a mirror for vg00, and You can't undo that, even if You set number of disks in vg00 to 1.
so we also unplug the hba cabling ;)
yesterday I stood at the edge. Today I'm one step ahead.
