Files being overwritten by make_tape_recovery
When using make_tape_recovery in our Ignited HP-UX servers we have seen that some system files are being overwritten and replaced by the files originally present on the Ignite server from which they have been installed.
These files include /etc/group, /etc/hosts and /etc/inittab. Luckly, /etc/passwd hasn't suffered.
Why is this happening? I understand that the resulting backup may not have all the files as the original, but the fact that the files are being overwritten while creating the make_recovery tape is a complete mistery for me.
I ignited this system using a golden image. Does this have something to do with the problem?
TIA
Paulo Fessel

Re: Files being overwritten by make_tape_recovery
Check your version of ignite and make sure you have the latest, plus make sure you have your system up-to-date in patches!

Re: Files being overwritten by make_tape_recovery
Verifying other server today for which the same behavior has been observed, I noticed that:
* /var/opt/ignite/local/host.info at the ignited server has the address of the Ignite server. Is this ok?
* /usr/newconfig/etc/hosts contains just localhost in its hosts definitions. So, where do the mistaken /etc/hosts come from? I erased the Ignite image file, so it doesn't come from there.
Any suggestions?
TIA,
Paulo Fessel

Re: Files being overwritten by make_tape_recovery
You need to read the make_sys_image command. There are lists of files to be included or not included in the image.
When making a golden image, its recommended that you copy the make_sys_image script to a temporary location and make changes there, because under certain conditions, you'll change make_sys_image and those changes will be reversed by other steps.
Both make_tape_recovery and the creation of golden images use the make_sys_image and do not include files bigger than 2G.
