Formatting of new harddisk taking too much time.

Dears,

We are in process of adding space in uor existing filesystem.For it we are removing 73 GB hard disk available on server and replacing them with 146 GB hard disk.

Now for it we removed 73 GB hard disk as RAID was configured so space get distributed in other disks.then we put 146 gb hard disk and from last 10 hrs its status is disk is being formatted.

Please confirm normally how much time it take to format the drive or Is there someting that we have missed.

Shalom,

pvcreate should execute in about 2-3 seconds. If not, there is probably something wrong with the scsi controller or configuration.

I'm not sure what you mean by format either, so perhaps provide the exact command you used and results.

Actually we are using Va7110. in that we have 10 hdds 73 gb & 5 hdd of 146 gb. Now we r replacing four 73 gb hdd by four hdd of 146 gb.
when i remove the 73 gb hdd from VA , it took 7 hrs to complete rebuild After that i fix new 146 hdd in it. but after 10 hrs, it is still showing unavialable in armdsp -a VA7110..
what should i do?

I m closing the thread. The problem is with the disk. I changed the disk. Now it is in balancing phase.
