Re: Full backup with make_recovery 10.20

Hi:

I trust that you have Ignite already installed. If you don't, I hope you have your Application CDs. The 10.20 release is long out of support and finding a version of Ignite that runs on it may be difficult. Ignite version B.5.4.x would be the last version supporting 10.20.

That said, you do _NOT_ want to use Ignite as a full backup tool. It isn't designed for that. Create an Ignite archive of vg00 and use another backup tool for the non-vg00 data. You want something like:

# /opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 -I -v -a /dev/rmt/0mn

Regards!

hope it helps.

Re: Full backup with make_recovery 10.20

Thanks,

Fabian Brise├Г┬▒o, the docs says:

The make_recovery command provides a mechanism for you to specify your own non-system files in the archive by using the /var/adm/makrec.append file. These specifications are limited to files or directories that belong to file systems in the core devices or volume groups.

The man of make_recovery says:

The /var/opt/ignite/recovery/makrec.append file is provided for the
user to append selected data files to the archive. This has the
format:

** User Core OS **
file: filename
file: filename
file: filename
dir: dirname
product: productname
** User Data **
file: filename
file: filename
product: productname
dir: dirname

Is there a way to bring a whole beyond the VG VG00, for example in make_tape_recovery have the option "-x inc_entire = vg01" I can put a whole in the VG "makrec.append?

Thanks

Re: Full backup with make_recovery 10.20

Shalom,

Your ignite command will work according to your last post.

However, understand that Ignite is only a vg00 boot restore tool. To get a clean copy of an oracle database, that database MUST be down.

Re: Full backup with make_recovery 10.20

If you have the last available version of Ignite/UX for HP-UX 10.20, you have the ability to run the make_tape_recovery command and as such use all of its options.

I am running Ignite/UX A.3.7.95 on my HP-UX 10.20 servers and use make_tape_recovery regularly.

I also concur with JRF that Ignite/UX should only be used for backing up your operating system / VG00.

I would use fbackup to backup the rest of your data rather than Ignite.

Re: Full backup with make_recovery 10.20

Hello Lucas.
As everyone before me has said.

Ignite is not recomended to backup files other than VG00.

You could used fbackup for your non vg00 files.

Example:
run ignite on vg00.

fbackup for everything else.

Re: Full backup with make_recovery 10.20

I did the following:

Ignite Update Tool:

Client Version

Ignite-UX-10-20 A.1.59.1 HP-UX Installation Utilities for Installing Systems 10:20

Post-update version:

Ignite-UX-10-20 A.3.2.45 HP-UX Installation Utilities for Installing Systems 10:20

I installed the patch PHCO_20388 PAX.

After:

In implementing the make_tape_recovery with inclusion of VGs just enter the "-x inc_entire = VGNAME.

nmssys: / (121) root # make_tape_recovery-x inc_entire = vg00-x inc_entire = vgarc-x inc_entire = vgdb01-x inc_entire = vgdb02-x inc_entire = vgnms-l-v-a / dev/rmt/0mn

Thanks Staff.
