I just installed HP-UX 11.00 on one a HP-RP2470 Server.
The installation in general went OK, however near the end I've seen the folowing output on the console:
Has anybody seen this before? What does this mean? Is this some stupid joke?
Thank you for the responses.
-----
Just forgot to add that now everything looks OK and the server is working fine (at least it looks like it is working fine :) ). However this message has brought my attention, and I would still like to know the reason.
The version of the OS is HP-UX 11.00

Re: HP UX 11.00 Post installation error - FAILURE ?
There might have been errors or warnings during the installation. Check the install.log file for the same.
Also let us know if the server boots up fine after this installation?

More information will be on the upper part of the window, did you cature the text? Take a look into the log file!
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: HP UX 11.00 Post installation error - FAILURE ?
Well the server works fine now.. I am installing some additional patches now, haven't noticed anything unusual so far..
I did checked thou and Yes, the /etc/resolv.conf is missing..
Any sugestions?
Do I have to create one, and if I do then how to do that, what should I put inside?

Re: HP UX 11.00 Post installation error - FAILURE ?
Hmm, did you try checking /var/opt/ignite/local/install.log for "ERROR" like the message suggested? That's where I'd start.
And no, it's not a joke. HP doesn't have a sense of humor.

SolutionYour PuTTY window is badly misconfigured. The scroll bar is far too small for normal system administration. In the PuTTY configuration window, change the number of scroll lines to 50000 (that's 50 thousand). Now you'll be able to scroll back and see the warnings and errors. The trigger for the error message was likely found in the /etc/ec.log file but since you've rebooted a few times, the actual reason may be lost by now. In the future, you'll be able to scroll back enough to see what happened.
Here are the changes you need for good Unix administration:
Session ---> Close Window on Exit: Always Terminal ---> Keyboard ---> The Backspace Key ---> Control-H (was Control-?, the DELETE key) Window ---> Columns: 132 Rows: 48 (your choice, but 80 is too small for logs and ioscan) Lines of Scrollback ---> 50000 Appearance ---> Cursor appearance: Block Cursor blinks Font: Lucida Console, 10-point (or Courier, personal choice, 10 point or adjust to fit screen size) Font quality: Clear Type Colours: Font default is gray!! (182, not 255) Set Foreground = 255 255 255 Set Background = personal choice (note: Bold = 255, so bold enhancements will be the same)

Re: HP UX 11.00 Post installation error - FAILURE ?
Thanks for the notice Bill,
I adjusted the PuTTY windows and it looks much better now,
Also the lines aren't broked any more when i receive long lines of output.
Who could have thouth that the big FAILURE is the result of incorect terminal window settings.
I also opend the file /var/opt/ignite/local/install.log as sugested.
Nothing noteable inside.. just an infinite line of notes. At the end it is much the same like the final output:
* Summary of Execution Phase: * 724 of 1434 filesets were Skipped. * 710 of 1434 filesets had no Errors or Warnings. * The Execution Phase succeeded. ======= 01/24/12 11:37:45 EST END configure AGENT SESSION (pid=3238) * Run_SD_Configure_Scripts: Error * Run_Postconfigure_Scripts: Begin * Applying the networking information. * Applying the root password. * Creating the manifest. NOTE: Could not read the /etc/resolv.conf file. * Run all specified post-configure scripts. * Run_Postconfigure_Scripts: Complete ======= 01/24/12 11:38:18 EST Installation complete: Failure NOTE: Search for the word "ERROR" in the log file for details: on a server: /var/opt/ignite/clients/0x00306E262180/install.log on a client: /var/opt/ignite/local/install.log

Re: HP UX 11.00 Post installation error - FAILURE ?
I don't think Bill is saying that the terminal settings caused the FAILURE message, just that it makes it hard to read the whole error.
So there were no ERROR lines in those logs at all? Can you please post the output from these two commands:
grep -i ERROR /var/opt/ignite/local/install.log grep -i ERROR /var/opt/ignite/clients/*/install.log
