How can I upgrade VxVM 3.5 to 4.1

Hello team,

I have an rp4440 running 11.23 with VxVM 3.5, all the rootdg file systems were installed with Veritas File system and Veritas Volume Manager ver 3.5, now I need to upgrade VxVM and VFS to 4.1.

The rootdg is already mirrored with Veritas as well.

Can any body help me with some procedure to do it safely?

Thanks in advance,

Nancy .

Nancy,

Read this document for upgrading:

Thanks !

I now have another question, the products

. OnlineJFS (B3929EA): HP OnlineJFS (Server)
├в ┬в Full VxVM (B9116BA): VERITAS Volume Manager 4.1 for HP-UX

Are in the Application Software CD? or can I download them from the Veritas website?

Re: How can I upgrade VxVM 3.5 to 4.1

Use the one from the HP's Application CD.

BTW, are you running Full VxVM or the Base VxVM bundled with 11.23?

If you are running Full - licensing from HP is different than licensing from Veritas. With HP's licensing - you need a codeword to extract the license files (a depot actually) from the Application CD. If you purchased from Veritas - then you need a license key.

At least this is how it is w/ 11.11 and VxVM 3.5.

Re: How can I upgrade VxVM 3.5 to 4.1

VxFS 4.1 does not support creating of file systems using Version 1 disk layout and mounting of file systems using Version 2 or 3 disk layouts. VxFS 4.1 still provides the capability to upgrade Version 3 disk layouts using the vxfsconvert utility, but this is the last release to do so. VERITAS recommends that you upgrade all older disk layouts. The next major release will be the last to support the VxFS Version 4 and Version 5 disk layouts. VERITAS recommends that you upgrade file systems using these older disk layouts to
Version 6.

VxFS file systems must be cleanly unmounted before upgrading to the VERITAS File System 4.1 release from any previous release. For more information, see TechNote 265504, available at: http://support.veritas.com/docs/265504.

Re: How can I upgrade VxVM 3.5 to 4.1

Hi team,

What do you think if I do:

1) vxunroot
2)Install VVM 4.1
3)Encapsulate once again ex-rootdg

I do not have any other disk group created yet.

Do you think it could work fine?

Thanks again for your help.
