IGNITE Backup an Recovery with MSL2024 Library

Hello everybody, I want to take a Backup with make_tape_recovery in a server rx2600 directly connected to MSL2024 library.. the library uses LTO and make_tape_recovery documentation says that not support LTO only DDS and DLT... Is it possible take the backup and recovery (if presents an emergency) in this library? what do you think?..

Sometimes not all of the man page details are updated. I guess this text was written before Ultrium tapes emerge.

I did a lot of backup and restores with ultrium tapes without any problems.

IMHO the rx2600 does not support booting from tape. You need to boot from an install DVD and select
-> Install HP-UX -> select Advanced Installation -> Recovery tape -> GO!

or boot from an ignite server.

please find tape path using
#ioscan -fnC tape
and use below command
/opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -v -A -I -x inc_entire=vg00 -a

for restoring
find bootable paths using sea
and install hpux---> use media only option-->and follow normal ignite procedure.

I do not think you will have a problem creating a tape recovery on Ultrium.

However, you will have a problem booting this tape directly from a model rx2600.

Only the newest HP Itanium servers models, with recent firmware, can support direct tape boot. See the list in this whitepaper:
