IGNITE TAPE ITANIUM

Hello,
I have an rx2600 server with Ignite/UX B.4.1.61. I think this version is compatible with itanium. I have two questions
1) How do i create a bootable tape?
2) How do I restore it to another disk in my server?

1) make_tape_recovery -a /dev/rmt/?mn -A -x inc_entire=vg00

2) interrupt the boot process and boot off the tape. If you choose to interrupt the process , you can re-size logical volumes, etc.

when you try to create the bootable tape with the command you mention, I receive the following error:

ERROR: make_tape_recovery is not supported on IPF systems

Interesting! Do you have a recent B version? The B version is supposed to support all PA/IPF platforms. See:

What does a man make_tape_recovery tell you?

We (Kurt is my collegue) is installed the B version.

The normal make_tape_recovery doens't work on itanium, so wel are looking for an alternative

What "software specification" did you select when you downloaded. Try "HP-UX 11.22 All B.11.22 IA/PA".

Hi,

You're rigth, make_tape_recovery is only supported on PA-RISC systems ... But make_net_recovery is supported on IPF. Just configure an ignite server on another system (easy to do it using the tutorial on the server, just launch "ignite"), then boot on the ignite/UX server and use the interactive install to select a new disk.

That's unbelieveable!!!
I hope HP is attempting to fix this "feature".

I agree! We setup our Itanium server to BE our Ignite server. so we're sort of stuck... I guess we now need two ignite servers. Great, more software to support...

I REALLY hope that HP is working to fix this. They seem to be making it harder and harder to sell management on going with HP.
