My question is what are the options for using ignite to ignite a HPUX server. In the past, we have always had a direct attached tape device to our UX server. Since we only have one UX server in our environment, the option for igniting via a separate UX ignite server will not work. If we buy a blade (BL860), and put it into our C7000 chassis, do we have to buy a separate tape blade in order to ignite?

SolutionIt might be cheaper to create your own installation media(dvd) with Ignite.

Re: Ignite Options
You may configure the blade as an ignite server and backup to itself, but you need to create a DVD media in oder to restore anything - complicated solution.
Another option would be to use DRD and clone the boot disks (to SAN or internal drive), this gives you a standby copy of your boot disks just in case.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Ignite Options
In fact, you can create a DVD from an already stored ignite image, but you cannot backup the system directly to DVD.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: Ignite Options
When I look at the RX3600 server > under "Options and Accessories" it indicates that "DVD-RW+ Drive" is not supported with HPUX. So I if I wanted to do a make_tape_recovery from a 11.31 server to a DVD device, I take it that is not possible?
Thanks...colin

Re: Ignite Options
However, ignite backup directly to DVD is not possible.
Hope this helps!
