Ignite-UX question:
(B.41.61)
Is there an 8GB file size limit for pax? I heard that you can not backup any data that's greater then 8GB?
We have the latest pax patch installed - PHCO_28413.
10 points to any good answer.
Thank you
Gino

SolutionWARNINGS
Because of industry standards and interoperability goals, pax does not
support the archival of files larger than 2GB or files that have
user/group IDs greater than 60K. Files with user/group IDs greater
than 60K are archived and restored under the user/group ID of the
current process.

Re: Ignite-UX backup size question.
This probably goes hand in hand with HP's recommendation to only use ignite for vg00. I don't know too many folks that have 8GB files in vg00.

Re: Ignite-UX backup size question.
I routinely do an Ignite make_tape_recovery of an 18GB root disk, so I would have to say that the limit is higher than 8GB.

Re: Ignite-UX backup size question.
My question would be if there really is an 8GB total backup size limit using "pax" then how could anyone backup an 18 and/or 36GB+ boot disk (vg00)?
10 points to any good answer.
Thank you

Re: Ignite-UX backup size question.
Sorry, mis-read the question. Yes, I believe there's an 8GB limit on individual file size.

Re: Ignite-UX backup size question.
The classic 2GB limit for 'pax' and its cousin 'tar' are limits for individual files, not the whole archive.

Re: Ignite-UX backup size question.
the actual limit is on the file size not on the Volume Group or file systems.
