Ignite-UX backuping Raw devices

We had 2 servers runing HP-UX 11.00 with
B5725AA B.2.6.358 Ignite-UX.
We upgraded one to HP-UX 11.11 with
B5725AA B.5.4.50 Ignite-UX

On the original configuration we used to make make_recovery to cloning and backing up all the system and database (Informix) configuracion without problem. Here is the log.

Can┬┤t I backup those raw devices anymore with Ignite?

Re: Ignite-UX backuping Raw devices

Shalom,

make_tape_recovery which you should be using does correctly back up raw devices.

Whether the data is useful or not depends on the application reading it. I've made this work with Software AG adabas and oracle.

Re: Ignite-UX backuping Raw devices

The make_tape_recovery Steven refers to is available in the newer releases of Ignite:

http://www.docs.hp.com/en/IUX/

I would suggest you download and install a newer version (swremove the old first) and then use it to rebuild your system, moving your data into a separate VG that is backed up by conventional methods. I would not trust Ignite to backup my Informix database.

Re: Ignite-UX backuping Raw devices

Steven: I tried with the make_tape_recovery's standard instalation (as it came from the DVD) and it ask me for a pax patch PHCO_28414 and then informs me that my tape is ...

ERROR: This is not a no rewind device file.
ERROR: Check tape device failed.

So I├В┬┤ll install the last versi├Г┬│n as Pete recomends (I hope it'll include all patches an dependencies).

By the way wy is it failling the tape chek?, this is the one I have.

# ioscan -fnC tape
Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description
======================================================================
tape 0 10/12/5.0.0 stape CLAIMED DEVICE HP C1537A

Re: Ignite-UX backuping Raw devices

The tape check is saying that you have not specified the "no rewind" device file: /dev/rmt/1mn, for example. It has to have the "n" on the end.

Re: Ignite-UX backuping Raw devices

Thanks, Pete.
Anyway, it doesn't work.

This is the command I used:
/opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -A -I -v -a /dev/rmt/0mn

This is the log.

But informix raw filesystems' internal information is not backuped.
I hadn't problem durinrg the restoration, but informix can't run without that information.

Any other idea?
Are right the make_tape_command options?

Thanks,

Re: Ignite-UX backuping Raw devices

Finally I got the job done.
It had me two steps instead of one like in HP-UX 10.20.

make_tape_recovery, first
archive 0 level informix

And then restore both in the new HW.

Thank you both.
