Ignite client network auto conf!

Ignite client network auto conf!

Each cold install I launch on the client console, I got a page I should fill with hostname, IP, mask, etc.

Is it possible to put these informations in a file on the Ignite server, in the way the client find out these parameters automatically by the MAC address key, and the page on the client console will be already filled?

Shalom SO,

Yes, there is a nice gui for managing such profiles that runs under X or in terminal mode.

Re: Ignite client network auto conf!

Here is a hardcopy of what I would avoid on the client console :
NETWORK CONFIGURATION

This system's hostname: _______________

Internet protocol address (eg. 15.2.56.1) of this host: _______________

Default gateway routing internet protocol address: _______________

The subnet mask (eg. 255.255.248.0 or 0xfffff800): _______________

IP address of the Ignite-UX server system: xx.xx.xx.xx

Is this networking information only temporary? [ No ]

Re: Ignite client network auto conf!

Hello So,

I guess you should check this file and the ignite documentation to meet your requirements.

Check how the server is providing an IP addres to the client?

The following is mentioned in the Ignite-UX software recovery guide

Make sure that you have at least one booting IP available in the
/etc/opt/ignite/instl_boottab, /etc/bootptab or via DHCP on the Ignite-UX server respectively the boot helper.
Note: The IP must be an unassigned IP!

If you do not have any unassigned IP's available and you are using the
/etc/opt/ignite/instl_boottab, reserve the client's IP and the corresponding MAC
address by inserting a line with the reserve option:

On the IGNITE-UX server and the ignite ver B.4.1.x onwards (ensure that if you have
ipf machines in your site, that you have installed on the server a ignite ux version that
supports ipf machines.

for PA machines (clients)
# /usr/bin/vi /etc/opt/ignite/instl_boottab
:::reserve (IP:MAC_address::reserve)
15.17.112.113:00306E1B7FEE::reserve

for IPF client machines

# vi /etc/bootptab

shivalik:\
ht=ether:\
hn:\
bf=/opt/ignite/boot/nbp.efi:\
ha=00306EA74B14:\
ip=15.17.114.186:\
sm=255.255.248.0:\
gw=15.17.112.1

meaning of the letters above

ha =client mac addr
ip = client ip addr
sm = subnet mask
gw = gateway

Hope it helps you..

Re: Ignite client network auto conf!

Hello Albert,

I have no DHCP server to provide IP address during the cold install process.

I got the final IP address and other network stuff from network management team, then cold install the client host with it.

I have to put it in instl_boottab of the Ignite server before to type
"bo lan.xx.xx.xx.xx install"
at the console prompt of the client to install (PA server).
Actually the Ignite server will not provide anything if the MAC adress is not in instl_boottab.
So, the Ignite server have MAC & IP address, but cannot fill the network configuration page displayed on the client's console...
