Ignite recovery from tape requires ignite network server

Hello all,

I have created an ignite recovery tape using the following command.
'make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 -I -v -a /dev/rmt/1mn'

I am recovering the same system the tape was made on .

I am now trying to restore from this tape.
I boot from the tape drive, say no to interact with IPL, get past the 'alloc_pdc_pages',
past HP-UX Installation Initalization, scans for io devices no problem, then
prompts me for the following:
'Would you like to switch you source to Network? ([y]/n):

If I switch to a network source it requires an ignite server to be present, which I do not have (only HP-UX box on the network).

If I say no I get an error:

'WARNING: Could not setup default source device
ERROR: net_cfg_prep: Env variable: SOURCE not set
Rebooting system.'

Any ideas?

Re: Ignite recovery from tape requires ignite network server

Burt,

It sounds like it's asking if you would like to switch from the tape source to a network source. I recommend you answer 'no' and continue. The spot to configure your network interfaces will come later.

Hope this helps!

Re: Ignite recovery from tape requires ignite network server

This could be because you made the tape with the -I in making the tape.

I'd just say no and push on.

If I say no I get an error:

'WARNING: Could not setup default source device
ERROR: net_cfg_prep: Env variable: SOURCE not set
Rebooting system.'

The system then will just reboot, back to
where I started.

Re: Ignite recovery from tape requires ignite network server

The '-I' switch has nothing to do with this issue.

What kind of tape drive are you using? Since you get the error when you say 'no' it appears to me that you could be having some sort of issue with your tape drive.

If it is something other than DLT or DDS it may not be entirely supported by Ignite/UX.

The tape drive is HP model C5687C
HP Storageworks DAT 40 - DDS4 tape drive.

Re: Ignite recovery from tape requires ignite network server

Burt,

I would try downloading the latest version of Ignite and re-creating your Ignite tape. There's no reason I can think of that this shouldn't work.

Re: Ignite recovery from tape requires ignite network server

That was it.
I was using ignite B4.3 I ugraded to the
newest release B4.4.30 and it works like a charm.

Thanks
