Igniting from a Raid 5 system to a mirrored system

I need to duplicate an older HP system. The current model is an HP K260. The root volume group is on internal disk, but the application/database mount points are on a Raid 5 system. I would like to take an Ignite backup and restore to a K570. The root volume would be internal but the rest of the disk would be on a mirrored JBOD. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks..

Use the option's "-Avi" on your make_tape_recovery, then upon restoration to the K570, interactively define your root disk(s), lan card(s), hostname, IP, etc. You will have to manually backup and restore your data/applications.

Maybe I should have worded the question better. What I would like to know is if I will have to manually rebuild the app/DB mount points? I realize that I will have to restore the data.

Re: Igniting from a Raid 5 system to a mirrored system

Hi,

If the disks are untouched and you are
physically connecting them to your K570
system, all you need to do have a mapfiles
created for them before disconnecting.

# vgexport -m myvg.mapfile -p -v -s /dev/myvg
Do this for each and save the files somewhere.

on the K570 after building:

# mkdir /dev/myvg
# mknod /dev/myvg/group c 64 0xN0000 (use next numbers)
# vgimport -m myvg.mapfile -p -v -s /dev/myvg
(preview mode)
# vgimport -m myvg.mapfile -v -s /dev/myvg

Even you haven't got the mapfiles it is possible
to import them if you have printouts of your
volume group structure.

Re: Igniting from a Raid 5 system to a mirrored system

The only thing you have to do is to keep the SCSI controller in the same position. It may create problem with the device name. So if there is some extra SCSI Card just take it out before igniting the box and try to keep the SCSI Card in the same position as they are in your old K260 Box.

Forgot to mention,
After installation also if you found that the device name has been changed, it is possible to change the SCSI Card instance No. from the single user mode. So, don't worry, it can be done.
