Ingite restore error because of Ignite UX version differences
I need to restore an HP-UX v3 system from tape, but after I boot from CDROM, select Install HP-UX and choose boot from Tape it gives me an error that the versions of Ignite are different on the CD and the tape, which they are: Tape version = C.7.9.261 and the installation media verion C.7.8.201.
How can I restore the system from tape?? I have re-installed the HP-UX onto the system from the CD, but I still need the to do a restore.
Please advise

Re: Ingite restore error because of Ignite UX version differences
tape: C.7.9.261
CD: C.7.8.201
a) Always make a new recovery image or tape after software upgrades.
b) Since the tape is the newer version I don't see the issue. You don't need the CD like in Linux. The tape is bootable and all you need.
Insert the tape, reboot, interrupt the boot up sequence and note any messages. Choose automatic or custom recovery. Custom means you are changing things like the size of /stand or / or swap in vg00.

Re: Ingite restore error because of Ignite UX version differences
Are you assuming that you can't boot directly from tape? Newer Itanium servers can when setup correctly with the necessary firmware.
Regards!

Re: Ingite restore error because of Ignite UX version differences
Thanks all for your responces.
It is a BL870c Firmware 4.21, with a FC Tape drive attached to a SAN.
I cannot boot from tape as FC tape boot is not yet supported, I think only on direct attached SCSI tape drives.

Re: Ingite restore error because of Ignite UX version differences
You are correct. You need a direct attach SCSI DLT(?) DDS(?) tape drive.
What is the tape size and formatting? DLT? 4MM? DDS3,DD4?
Should be one around since someone once make the tape you're holding.
