Installing HP-UX 11.0 goes into recovery mode

Hi,
I am trying to reinstall my corrupted HP-UX 11.0 machine. The installer automatically goes into recovery mode. I have not backed up my server on any tape drive. "fsck" command from recovery shell fails with "Super Block" error.

Is there any way to force installer to format the disk drive and install HP-UX?

Regards,
Jasvant

Hi,
if you are using the normal CD, you have to choose which kind of installation.

Maybe you don't change and the system goes, by default, to the recovery shell.

Change the install type, disk will be scratch up automatically when you choose to re-install it.

hi,

If you have to format disk use command:
mediainit - initialize disk or partition DDS tape

Hi Jasvant

while installing from Media, it gives you 3 options
1. Install hp-ux
2.
3.recivery shell

moving curser on "install hp-ux" and a enter should start installation process
never give up

Re: Installing HP-UX 11.0 goes into recovery mode

I got the same situation which Jasvant faced. I want to install a new HP-UX 11.0 by using the Install/Update/Recovery CD, but it always automatically run into Recovery selection, I have no chance to select which action I want.

My server is rp2470 with the HD is 36GB.
I have used the same CD to install to the same model of server before, the situation was not reproduced. The only one difference is the HD, it has two 18GB HD. But now the one which has probem is 36GB HD. Though I am not sure if this is the reason.

Any idea how to resolve the situation?
I need to install a new OS instead of performing a recovery task.

Thanks,

Arith

Re: Installing HP-UX 11.0 goes into recovery mode

Hi Jasvant,

There is another thread in this forum with the same problem and it looks like it was resolved with the terminal setting. You might want to try the same thing. I should have cut and pasted the reply but I forgot 8-)

I thought at least I could mention the result of the other thread.

Cheers!
