L3000 to rp4440 upgrade

Hi,

We would like to upgrade HW from L3000 to rp4440. May we use just make_tape_recovery in order to create recovery tape in L3000 and then restore it in rp4440? If it is impossible could you give some tips how it is better to do?

It *MIGHT* be possible.

The first question is what version of HP-UX are you running on the L3000? If it is HP-UX 11.0, then NO this won't work.

The rp4440 requires at least HP-UX 11i v1 (11.11).

If you are running 11.11 on the L3000 then this MIGHT work, but I think it'd be a long shot.

To have the best chance of this working, make sure the L3000 is up to date on patches, especially the Hardware Enablement patches.

The when you run the Ignite tape on the rp4440, make sure you select "Install on different hardware". I can't recall exactly where that option is in the interface but it is there somewhere.

You could also look at this as an excellent opportunity to upgrade your Operating System and get all the latest patches applied, rather than just cloning your existing system. Of course, this may be what you end up doing it the make_tape_recovery doesn't work. I would have the latest install media on hand just in case.
