Re: Makerecovery from a RP4440 to RP8400
I don't know - that's a CPU archtecture jump there that may cause trouble. You'll be going from a PA8800 dual-core system down to a PA8700+ or even a PA8700.
It *may* work, but I wouldn't like to put money on it. Rule of thumb is you stay in the same CPU line & you're OK - you stray to far & you're likely to have trouble.
Rgds,
Jeff

-----
First, if you're using a tape from make_recovery or make_tape_recovery, the source and target system have to be the same type of architecture. This is because there are currently three different Ignite-UX INSTALL kernels that are used. The model of the system does not necessarily have to be the same, but the architecture does or the tape won't boot. The kernels are:
-----
Guess you will have to find out if they have the same architucture.
Hope this helps a bit.

Robert-Jan

Re: Makerecovery from a RP4440 to RP8400
The rp4440 and the rp8400 use PA-RISC 2.0 architecture if that is the architecture to which he refers, but there are many uses of the term architecture, so I'm not sure if he means processor architecture or not. Also,
I could name more than three CPU architectures for HP-UX, pa-risc 1.0, pa-risc 1.1, pa-risc 2.0, and Itanium.

This is because there are currently three different Ignite-UX INSTALL kernels that are used. The model of the system does not necessarily have to be the same, but the architecture does or the tape won't boot. The kernels are:
WINSTALL--used for all systems that are 64-bit ONLY (N, L, A,...etc.)
VINSTALL--used for V-class systems
INSTALL--used for systems that can run BOTH 32- and 64-bit (K, D, R,...etc.)

Re: Makerecovery from a RP4440 to RP8400
That might be a good way to go, run a test at your local or nearest HP performance center.
