NFS Hangs while booting from ignite image

I am using ignite to load a k420 with 10.01 (from a production D350). I am running into the issue where after the initial reboot after loaded the os from tape, the system hangs while trying to start NFS. The original server did have nfs (server) running. Is there any way to get past this on the new server?

The only thing I have thought of is shutting down nfs on the original server and taking another ignite image while it is not running. But, since this is a production system, we run into issues with the business not allowing us the time to shut the application down.

Please help!

Thanks,

Steph

Re: NFS Hangs while booting from ignite image

Hi Steph,

I dont see why as NFS server it should give an issue...
I believe more its because of network configuration (was the D350 on the same network?...)
Have you tried installing from ignite as "standalone" choosing to configure later the network?
I usually do that when suspect possible network issues (box looking ofr ist name on DNS etc...).

check the order :
hosts: files [NOTFOUND=CONTINUE] dns
in /etc/nsswitch.conf
remove/rename /etc/exports

All the best

Re: NFS Hangs while booting from ignite image

Well I forgot to say, boot in single user then mount only vg00 and edit the files...
look what you have also in /etc/fstab comment anything to do with remote hosts....

Good luck

Re: NFS Hangs while booting from ignite image

Shalom Steph,

One possible problem:

Though similar, D boxes and K boxes are different and a make_tape_recovery or make_net_recovery image might not work.

I think you can get around the issue by setting nfs server to not run run when you make the backup. Don't shut them down, just set the /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs file for SERVER not to run so that gets recorded in your Ignite image.

Re: NFS Hangs while booting from ignite image

I took your advice and edited the rc.config.d script and took another ignite image. That way, the machine wasn't trying to start nfs on the way up.

Thanks!
