Normally to untar a bundle:
# cd tmp_directory
# tar -xvf ./patch_bundle_filename
Your patch file should be in tar format, when downloaded. Now HP has a script that comes with each patch bundle download which does all untarring, sh etc.

Correction, Shiju is right, untar it with tar -xvf, then either run the create-depot script or just unshar the patch with 'sh PHCO_26244' and install with 'swinstall -s /tmp/PHCO_26244.depot'.
