Possible to install Ignite golden image on alternate local disks?
I'm not sure if this is possible or not, but I'm hoping someone here will be able to fill me in.
I have an HP 11 system that's up and running and active. It has a set of unused disks on it in a separate disk array.
What I'd like to know is if it's possible to take an Ignite golden-image boot DVD and install that image onto the unused disks on the system without shutting down the system and booting it from the DVD?
The idea here is that I'm reinstalling the current system with this new image, while also upgrading from and older array with smaller failure-prone disks.
If I can build a bootable system on the new disks with the existing system up and running, I can avoid the downtime needed to boot from the DVD and run through the Ignite procedure, and just reboot the system onto the new disk array in a matter of minutes.
The Ignite golden image is just a tar file, right? So I could untar it onto a set of volumes on the new array, perhaps. But is it possible to run the Ignite GUI system so it will take care of all the config details such as defining the logical volumes and setting up the network config stuff in the new root filesystem for me, rather than having to do it by hand?
Thanks for any advice or suggestions you can offer.

Re: Possible to install Ignite golden image on alternate local disks?
No, you will have to shut down the system and boot it from the DVD drive.
But you can if you do this install a new system on unused disk.
If this disk is on shared storage of any kind, you can install the system from another server.
If this is local storage, you have no options to do this without downtime.

Thanks for the information you two, I'm going to go do a bit of tinkering and see what turns up.
