Prevent tape from being overwritten

Is there a way to prevent an ignite_UX tape from being overwritten within a specified time frame? I want to set up cron to fire off the backup, but am concerned if the tape (from yesterday) has not been removed from the tape drive. I know that if no tape is found in the drive, the backup cancels. When that occurs, the backup can always be manually run. I'm just not sure how to handle tapes from being overwritten.

Thanks

Re: Prevent tape from being overwritten

I do not think you can do that. You can just write protect knob to write protect position.

Re: Prevent tape from being overwritten

Hi,

Add after the backup command the following:

mt -f /dev/rmt/xxxx offline

This command ejects tape from the drive.

Re: Prevent tape from being overwritten

Setup the crontab entry, then add:

;mt -f /dev/rmt/0m offl

at the then to automatically rewind and eject the tape.
