Recover from Golden Image

Hi all. I have a doubt about Golden Image. I am wondering if I could install a system from zero (with no previous OS) or recover a faulty server which is no longer booting to the OS.
I have make the Golden image already, and tried from the ignite server executing the bootsys command, and it worked perfectly and recovered all.
But the thing is when I try to recover from the Golden Image with the client OS being down, I boot form a install CD and tell the system to use an ignite server (giving all the network parameters correctly) but it fails and tells me that there are no disks on where to install (I can assure you all disks are well) and I have four internal disks and six on the Symmetrix.
When booting form the CD, the server querys all the disks and all goes well.
I also made a make_net_recovery and tried to recover my system again, and fails again with the same thing. I locates the file, but it keep telling me that the server can not find any disk. Why is this happening?
This only works if the client is up or what?
I have no clue on what is happening...
Any help would be wonderfull...

Re: Recover from Golden Image

Shalom,

Yes.

I have done this. It is possible to boot a clean system off an Ignite server and build the system from a golden image.

All you need to do is boot the system at the console, and do the correct command.

bo lan.192.168.0.10 install

Where 192.168.0.10 is your Ignite server.

The Ignite server must be configured to serve up the golden image to this client.

Re: Recover from Golden Image

Hi Steven. I tried the command you told me, and the server wont do anything. This is what I get from the console:

Main Menu: Enter command or menu > bo lan 10.57.224.75 install
Interact with IPL (Y, N, or Cancel)?> n

Booting...

Maybe, it has to be with the fact that I have in my server already a lan card (the console one) and another one with another four ports?

Re: Recover from Golden Image

Did you try

Main Menu: Enter command or menu > bo lan.10.57.224.75 install

Hope this helps!

Re: Recover from Golden Image

From the boot menu help:

"A delimiter '.' is required if LAN is used instead of ie. BO lan.10.6.6.6.3 install"

Hope this helps!

Re: Recover from Golden Image

Hi Torsten. I tried with the delimiter, but it keeps saying the same things. In the example there ara five numbers instead of four, could be that something I am missing?

Re: Recover from Golden Image

No, should be a normal IP address.

Bad example, but taken directly from the screen.

Try

Configuration Menu: Enter command > he bo

There is perhaps still something wrong with your ignite setup. Did you reserve the client IP?

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Recover from Golden Image

Could be the issue related with the fact that my lan console card has one IP adress and my OS lan card (4 ports) has another, and something with the golden image files?

Re: Recover from Golden Image

The client was working with an OS running on it, and I have to test the golden image's recovery.
The ignite server is well configured as I was able to restore from this golden image performing the bootsys command from the ignite server.

Re: Recover from Golden Image

Are the server and the client (lan0 !) in the same subnet?

Hope this helps!

Torsten.
