Re: Recovery from an Ignite server on PA-RISC and HP-UX 11.11

Recovery from an Ignite server on PA-RISC and HP-UX 11.11

Hello,

I have an Ignite server (hsv0145s) on which I made a backup of an Ignite client (hsv0146s). Now I need to restore the backup I made on the client.

Both Ignite boxes are rp3410 running HP-UX 11.11.

The backup was made on the client :

make_net-recovery -s hsv0145s

It worked fine.

Then I had to restore through the console of the client. It succeeded into determining that the Ignite server was a bootp server (actually running instl_bootd). It got worse when came the following menu :

[ Install HP-UX ]
[ Run a Recovery Shell ]
[ Advanced Options ]

What do I choose? And once the proper item is choosen, how do I continue?

I tried to find it in the Ignite Administration Guide (the 26th edition of February 2007 in French) but I cannot find the entire procedure for HP-UX 11.11 on PA-RISC boxes. There are only procedures for HP Integrity boxes running HP-UX 11.23.

Can you please give me the entire procedure to follow?

Thanks in advance

You need to select "Install HP-UX".

I have it documented here, but that is for a tape archive.

I guess you will further have to select Ignite-server based installation, and you should have an option to load your archive somewhere.

My tape-based recovery looked very much like a cold install, so that is the general direction to go.

Re: Recovery from an Ignite server on PA-RISC and HP-UX 11.11

Shalom,

You choose Install HP-UX.

You then have to change the various Ignite screens to make this system work.

If you are restoring a system to an image from itself, there would be very few changes.

If you are restoring from an image of another system, you will need to change the hostname and ip address and probably many other options.

If a file system such as /usr or /opt or /var has been too tight. This is an opportunity to change all that.

Re: Recovery from an Ignite server on PA-RISC and HP-UX 11.11

Hello,

I have now the right direction to follow.

Thanks to both of you for your quick answers.

If I may abuse, could you please lead me a little further? I won't be able to test it before 6 PM and I fear having to face unclear menus.

I previously "broke through the profundity" of the "Run a Recovery Shell" menu and couldn't figure out it was the wrong way.

Thanks in advance

Hello Jean-Philippe.
Menu options are not that dificult, you will be asked for example which image do you want to recover from (in case you have more than one).

2. is the IP address of the client you are trying to receover permanent ?

3. Which LAN card are you going to use.

4. If you want to modify Lvol sizes ? if not you can start your recovery process.

After recovery starts you are prompted for nothing more until the recovery finishes.
Knowledge is power.
