Restore Ignite image to another host

Hello,
how is it possible, to restore a Ignite-Image from Server A to Server B?
From Server A I have a functional image, but server B has now problems, but I no image of the OS.

Server A and B are in another subnet as the Ignite-Server, Server A is boothelper. I will install/boot over LAN.
Also on this node (Server A) there is the Ignite-Archive form the own machine i want to restore on server B.

I know, after restor ei had to make changes on Server B (like network config)

What are the steps to build up Server B with Ignite-Image from Server A?

Best regards

Shalom,

Sure this will probably work.

make_tape_recovery is pretty hardware dependent and will object to hardware differences.

make_net_recovery will have the same issues. Chances of success as with the prior method.

Golden Image is not so hardware dependent and has the best chance of success.

Re: Restore Ignite image to another host

Hello,
the two server has the same hardwate (same model, same CPU, same RAM).

The Ignite Image was created with make_net_recovery.

So I think it should be possible to use this image for server B, but how?

Must I use some tricks that server B will see the image from Server A while booting from lan (to the Ignite Server)?

Creating a new Golden Image will be the last chance, but if possible, I will not cresate a new (Golden) Image ....

Re: Restore Ignite image to another host

Hi,

Yes, it is possible . You can find some information here:
http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-90772/ch11s12.html

I searced for a more detailed document called "Successfully cloning" or something like this but cluld not find it on the fly.

Another possible solution is to use "DRD" to clone the disk on server A, move the disk to server B boot and edit hostname/network configuration.

Re: Restore Ignite image to another host

Hi

Leef has given a good and valid Solution with DRD and movement of the disk from Server A to Server B.

Anyway if you want to do the task with Ignite please follow the Ignite-UX Frequently Asked Questions at the link given as

http://docs.hp.com/en/IUX/faq.html#server_setup

11.2 Section -Network Recovery - Cloning a System.

This asks you to make the TGT-Directory that holds the config of the Ignite Image of Client using adding a client for recovery at /var/opt/ignite/clients/

from /var/opt/ignite/clients/ to /var/opt/ignite/clinets/ and
use the combination of find and cpio to copy the CINDEX abd recovery directories.

Need to make some changes on the boot-helper think so.
