Solution(I thought the first customer version of 10 was 10.01?)
>from a make_tape_recovery from an old HP9000/L2000 another to a new one very old also HP9000 A Class for a DR and it is hanging
Did this old 10.0 even support these L and A class machines?

Re: Restore hangs before having the menu!! please help help
With the exception of the A180, the A-series machines were 64-bit only as well. The A180 if I recall correctly was the only A-series server the would run HP-UX 10.x.
As far as your error goes, if you are trying to install an A-series from an L-series, then you may have problems due to kernel and driver differences between the servers. I really would be surprised if this worked.

Re: Restore hangs before having the menu!! please help help
ontop of everything else, that has been mentioned. your not actually seeing the tape drive, and are booting off a disk by the looks of it.
you only have 2 items in your search command, the disk at ID6(random access media) and lan.
If you saw the tape drive it would be listed as sequential access media device.

Re: Restore hangs before having the menu!! please help help
Thank you very much for your answer. I am not a specialist HP and I wasn;t usre that seeing random access media would refer to the tape as on the other systems the tape was recognised as Sequentiel but wasn;t sure if it should be the same on all system.
So this is a really good point => I know now why it is not working at the first place but
I didn;t know also that hp-ux version 10 wasn't supported on a L class server... => so this will definitly not work!!!
THANKS very very much now I can stop trying and move on !
You really help me very much!!!!
Cheers

Re: Restore hangs before having the menu!! please help help
the current production system is running hp-ux version 10 and the sytem is on HP 9000 L class
so this is supported well I mean it is working
but the DR machine that used to restore the OS is an A class
Cheers

Re: Restore hangs before having the menu!! please help help
The L-series servers positively DO NOT support HP-UX 10. There was NO 64-bit version of HP-UX 10.X and the L-series server are 64-bit ONLY.
Are you absolutely positive that it is HP-UX 10.X?
What does 'uname -a' show and what does 'model' show?

Re: Restore hangs before having the menu!! please help help
You're right and I'm stupid!! I was so confused by the screen trying so many times that I mixed up the version I see and what I want to do
I have asked for a new tape drive to be able to do again a restore
Sorry again don;t hate me
