Restore make_net_recovery archive

Hi Guys!. I've made an archive of a clint through "Create Network Recovery Archive" option on Ignite/UX server GUI, with no problem. Now I don't have information about how to restore this archive, that is, what are the procedures that I have to follow to boot the client through lan, so it will contact the
server and use the archive I've made before.
My server is an HP-UX 11.00 and client is 11.00 too. The Ignite-UX version is B.4.3.123.

I didn't configure anything. I just installed the Ignite-UX on server, and added the cliente through GUI and then I made the archive.

thanks in advance.

Re: Restore make_net_recovery archive

Ignite can go push or pull.

To pull, you boot the client off the built in lan card. A mini kernel loads and then you choose the archive to load. They are named by the date that you did the make_net_recovery.

I think you'll at least need to run one of the configuration wizards that asks question.

I recommend and upgrade to 4.4.30 when practical.

Re: Restore make_net_recovery archive

Hi Luciano,

The way we do it is to boot the standard CD & choose Ingite install & then point it to the Ignite server. This way it doesn't have to be on the same subnet as the Ignite server.
But tftp services as well as r commands have to be available to both sides.

Not all that difficult, but I would practice on a sandbox system before being in the pressure situation of having to recover a Production server in a "must have it now" scenario.

Also be advised that ending up with archives larger than 2GB can be problematic with the gzip 1.2.4 that ships with HP-UX. We still haven't found a clean way around this - just kludges.

My 2 cents,
Jeff

Re: Restore make_net_recovery archive

Jeff,

Does the gzip limitation apply to 11i as well? I have been able to create make-net_recovery archives that exceed 2GB but I have not actually tried recovering from them.

Re: Restore make_net_recovery archive

Hi Nelson,

Yes. To this day HP *still* ships gzip 1.2.4 with all HP-UX versions. Problem is it *may* work sometimes & may not others. Drives me crazy. I've petitioned HP, gnu.org, even the gzip author as to when someone will "bless" 1.3.1 (or higher) as a "stable" version so that HP might bundle it. HP's stance is "no stable - no bundle". Hell, 1.3.1 has been out for *over* two years. Works fine for me every time - seems very stable to me - but alas I get no say.

Rgds,
Jeff

Re: Restore make_net_recovery archive

Thanks for the warning Jeff.. I will try all my over 2GB recovery archives.
