Restoring Ignite Image from rp5470 to rp4410

Gurus, I am attempting to restore an image from an rp5470 to a newer rp4410. I understand device names may be different, etc.

I'd heard there is an ignite option to "Restore Image to different hardware" or like named option. I'm not sure where that option is at exactly, anybody ever use it? Any advice you can give? Thanks!

Geno,

First boot from your ignite image

Select Install HP-UX
Select Advanced Installation
Enter the appropriate info
System Name:
Internet Protocol Address:
Default Gateway:
Subnet Mask:

Under Basic tab
Select Additional
Change cloning to different Hardware to true
Review the software, system, file system, and advanced tabs
Select GO

The system will install the modifed image and reboot

You'll need at least HP-UX 11.11, 11.00 is not enough. You have to patch the server to a current level, before backup.

I would do a cold install, because the new server is not only different hardware, it's a different generation.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Shalom Geno,

It might work, it might not. The hardware is different enough you might have a problem.

You may do better creating an Ignite Golden image, which is more hardware independent.

Re: Restoring Ignite Image from rp5470 to rp4410

Hi,

I would suggest a cold installation to avaoid any confusion and complication at a later stage. Yes, you can try for upgrading knowledege, but if the server is going to be in production, then I would go for a fresh installation.

Enjoy the Installation

Now I can't even run the Ignite restore...after I upgraded the Ignite server to version C.6.7.79, I boot client from CDROM, select appropriate options & get these cannot find libcl.2 errors:

Re: Restoring Ignite Image from rp5470 to rp4410

Try booting the system from the ignite server instead of the cd

Note: the following assumes that both servers are on the same segment. If they are not, you will need to install a boot helper.

Interrupt the boot process

and enter one of the following commands

bo lan install

bo lan.ipaddress install

This should allow your system to boot from the ignite server.

Re: Restoring Ignite Image from rp5470 to rp4410

Actually, that's the reason I'm booting from CDROM is because I can't boot do the boot lan: install for some bizzare reason - and it IS on the same lan segment. i've got a case open with HP & it was their recommendation that I just boot from CDROM. Then we found out the client on sept. 2005 was newer than the Ignite server version...so updated server & we are where we're at now.

Re: Restoring Ignite Image from rp5470 to rp4410

I just had the same issue the client would not boot from
bo lan.ip_address install

but I did a plain
bo lan install

without the ip address and the client found the ignite server and installed!
