Restoring one file from Ignite-UX make tape!!

I just recently did a make tape recovery and it ran for 2 tapes. I need to get a file and I think it is in the second tape, Do I still need to mount the first tape before issuing the tar -xvf command or I can do it directly on the second tape. I am getting a tar block size error and directory checksum error when I tried directly on the second tape? Any clarification is appreciated. Thanks.

I went to the first tape and it didn't error out !! Looks like thats the way !! Thanks !!!
