Upgrade a B1000 (10.2) to 11.0 using an ignite from L-1000

Hi all,
I'd like to upgrade a B1000 running HPUX 10.2 to HPUX 11.0 using an ignite tape created from an L-1000. Is this possible, or is the hardware different enough that I have no choice but to install from CD? Thanks!

You can TRY doing it your way, but I think the best bet would be to just do a fresh install from the CD.

Hi,

The HW is so different between these 2 systems that I won't even try to do it. You should definitely install from the CD..

The way I look at it, it can't hurt to try and besides, it might be interesting/educational. If it doesn't work, then you can just go on to the cold install.

Good luck,
Pete

Hi Todd

The hpux kernel genrated on the L calss server is differnt as it is for series 800 servers whereas the hardware on teh workstation is differnt , both of these cant run using the same kernel , so this will fail.

I would not do this as both systems are not identical. You will have problems as both system's hardware is different (back plane, I/O cards, disks etc.) The best option would be to do a cold install and configure the system by comparing the parameters/applications running on the L class server.

There are lot of threads in this forum regarding the same issues. This is one of them:

Hi,

The hardware is different and hence you will definitely face some problems.

Better to install from the CD.

ALL THE BEST.

Due to different BUS structure it is going to fail.
Still you can try installing it interactively. There is no harm in trying.
