you can take ignite backup before updating your ignite s/w version and also use fbackup to backup your enitre system to tape

#/opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -Av

#fbackup -f/dev/rmt/0m -i -v

Hi,

Take full backup of your system by using fbackup or any other tools you are using for backup.

Take root volume group backup by ignite tool.

I think you need not to backup any files. You should not swremove the existing version. If so all your customizations will be intact.

Re: Which files needs to be backuped up befoure update ignite Sw version

Hi,

I upgraded Ignite-UX about 10months back, I chose a different approach by removing the older version and installing the newer one due to conflicts in existing different Ignite-UX software versions.

I took a look on Ignite-UX faq too which is now @ http://docs.hp.com/en/5992-5094/5992-5094.pdf

check section 9-3.

Re: Which files needs to be backuped up befoure update ignite Sw version

I my experience, there may be 2 important files that could get lost (not with a normal upgrade/install) if swremove is done before swinstall.

/var/opt/ignite/INDEX
Files in /etc/opt/ignite

Consider some simple .bak copies here
