boot from ignite server fail
yesterday I was having problem trying to ignite a system from an igniter server. The ignite server runs 11i and has March 2003 patch. What I was trying to do was remove the two old disks from my A400 (client) and ignite the new 36Gb drives from the ignite server on the client. The client has been backing up to the ignite server without any problems. After installing the new disks, I halted the boot procedure. From the BCH menu I tried this
bo lan xx.xx.xx.xx install
interact with ISL (tried yes and no)
After some time I get message saying "failed to initialize"
Both systems are on the same subnet
I've tried searching forums but seem to not find solution to my problem, please help me.
Here is the output of 'instl_adm -d'
# instl_adm defaults:
# NOTE: Manual additions between the lines containing
"instl_adm defaults"
# and "end instl_adm defaults" will not be preserved.
server="xx.x.xxx.xx" (ignite server IP)
netmask[]="255.255.0.0"
route_gateway[0]="xx.x.xx.x"
route_destination[0]="default"
# end instl_adm defaults.
I also did a search lan, but no devices were found. thanks MM

Re: boot from ignite server fail
http://software.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=IGNITEUXB
Also, note that you can not boot off an Ignite server with any other lan card than the build in LAN card on the box. You can transfer the ignite data through your add in gigabit card, but not the boot process.
If necessary set up a crossover cable or hub for booting to remedy this situation.
You can watch the attempted boot on the Ignite sever for real time evidence of connectivity with one or both of the following procedures.
ps -ef | grep boot
tail -f /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

Re: boot from ignite server fail
The ignite version is "B5725AA B.4.3.123"
I look at both system, client is using 10/100 in built LAN card. Server uses gigabit card. Is this the reason? If I install additional cable from in-built card on server, should this then work?
thank you for information

Re: boot from ignite server fail
if linkloop doesnt work then server and client are not physically connected to the same network segment, check cables link lights etc.
