boot-helper

Hi

Can anybody guide me to setup boot-helper system for ignite-ux. I have 2*7420 servers with 6 vpars configured. one of the vpar is configured as ignite server and all servers were configured in same network and was working fine.

now we are shifting 2 servers to dmz zone and it is in different subnet. I can communicate with servers but i came to know that for ignite to work it requires boot-helper. So I am planning to configure both server as boot-helper for each other.

In ignite docs it is just telling to install Ignite-UX.MinimumRuntime. But i am not clear how to do it. Please help me in this

thanks in advance
arun

Re: boot-helper

Shalom arun,

What the doc's are saying is to do a minial ignite install, no extras on the boot helper.

See http://software.hp.com for a current Ignite release.

What doc are you using?

Re: boot-helper

Hi,

Something to think about!
If you're putting servers in a DMZ, this mostly mean that they should remain in a secure environment.
Question to ask yourself, is my Infra still secure with the current configuration.

Think of /var/adm/inetd.sec, ipfilter etc.

Run the following on your ignite server, you will see the following:
swlist -l subproduct B5725AA.Ignite-UX
# Initializing...
# Contacting target ""...
#
# Target: :/
#

# B5725AA C.6.2.241 HP-UX Installation Utilities (Ignite-UX)
# B5725AA.Ignite-UX C.6.2.241 HP-UX System Installation Services
B5725AA.Ignite-UX.Manuals Manual Pages and Documentation
B5725AA.Ignite-UX.MinimumRuntime Minimum Runtime Configuration
B5725AA.Ignite-UX.Runtime Runtime Configuration

On the server where you need the minimumRuntime run the following to install it:
swinstall -s Ignite-UX.MinimumRuntime

Goodluck

Re: boot-helper

hi Darrel

Thanks for the reply. here you mentioned about the installation of software component. Could you pls tell me how to configure the helper system.

One more query is it possible to take ignite backup from the servers in DMZ zone with out installing b-helper. Coz as per my understanding the helper is helping to identify the network of ignite UX server to the client which is crashed. so if the systems are up and running is it possible to create the recovery archive.

Please let me know that are all the ports required to open for this to do the backup.

thanks
