changing of lan boot path

I have a rp7420 intergrity machine, the whole mahine has one partition. It has two core I/O boards and 2 addon nic cards.

Ignite server version : C.6.7.79

# lanscan output

lan 0 0/0/8/1/0/4/0 igelan CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A6794-60001 PCI 1000Base-T
lan 1 0/0/14/1/0 iether CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A7012-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-T Dual-port Adapter
lan 2 0/0/14/1/1 iether CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A7012-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-T Dual-port Adapter
lan 3 1/0/1/1/0/4/0 igelan CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A6794-60001 PCI 1000Base-T
lan 4 1/0/14/1/0 iether CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A7012-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-T Dual-port Adapter
lan 5 1/0/14/1/1 iether CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A7012-60001 PCI/PCI-X 1000Base-T Dual-port Adapter

I add hard address 0/0/8/1/0/4 lan0 connected to the same subnet which has the ignite server.

1. sea lan install did not find any devices, why is it so ? is it because the network I/O core path is not 0/0/0/0

# search lan install

ERROR: Unknown device

Search Table has been cleared

search boot paths shows me the DVD drive, 2 internal disks and some fibre channel cards but no network paths.

2. When lan. is given it uses the lan interface of the other core I/O located on chassis 1 .

Main Menu: Enter command or menu > boot lan.192.168.3.94 install

BCH Directed LAN Path: 1/0/1/1/0/4/0.192.168.3.94

What command i can use to change the BCH directed lan path to use 0/0/8/1/0/4/0 ?

3. If i want to have multiple OS releases on the ignite server ex: 11 v1 sep 2005, 11 v1 Dec 2005 , can i edit /var/opt/ignite/INDEX file to have different OS version, presently the INDEX file has one option for each HP release ex:

HP-UX B.11.11 Default
HP-UX B.11.23 Default
HP-UX B.11.00 Default

Re: changing of lan boot path

The system is using the core I/O LAn (your lan3)
1/0/1/1/0/4/0...

(Cell 1 slot 8) - you should use this device.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: changing of lan boot path

Hello Dinesh,

a) check if the ignite server is communicable from this server using the tftp commands..

b) Check the configuration of the network and confirm that it is correct and meets the current setup.

c) Regarding the query of editing the INDEX files, refer to this pdf, which describes teh same

Re: changing of lan boot path

Your LAN 3 is the core I/O lan and it is used for this by default - "randomly" it is not named LAN 0.

Hope this helps!

Re: changing of lan boot path

Hi,

AFAIK you can only use the core I/O NIC for Ignite installs because none of the lan drivers for the other NICs have been loaded yet.
What you *can* do, however, is set up speed & duplex for the core I/O.

Re: changing of lan boot path

This is the explanation:

The OS is scanning the system and create the device files after installing in order of discovering - first found, first created.

The hardware path

0/0/8/1/0/4/0

is the first found and will be LAN 0.

Next will be
0/0/14/1/0 - LAN 1
0/0/14/1/1 - LAN 2
1/0/1/1/0/4/0 - LAN3

But, for your server Cell 1 is the default (core) cell and the primary. The associated core I/O LAN is the default for the system and for ignite - named LAN 3.

Don't worry about.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: changing of lan boot path

What torsten mentioned is very correct. I have two core I/O cards but cell 1 is the primary cell and it gives the lan instance 3. Also, HP customer support mentioned that there is no command to change the way BCH tries to boot off the lan and it always selects the lan interface from the primary core cell. Thanks for all the replies.

Does anybody know which MP command tells me which cell is the primary cell ?

Re: changing of lan boot path

I think there is no command to know about the core I/O, you have to review your servers documentation.

For your server it says:

"The primary LAN interface is located on the LAN/SCSI board installed in the rightmost slot when viewing
the system from the back."
